A Relative Matter
Practical, sourced guidance for family carers in Ireland. The questions people actually search for at two in the morning, answered properly.
The problem
Irish family carers are navigating a genuinely complicated system: Fair Deal, HSE home support, medical cards versus GP visit cards, equipment funding, hospital discharge. The official sources are accurate but written for administrators. The accessible sources are often written for another country’s system, which makes them worse than useless.
What I built
A focused set of guides covering the decisions carers actually face — a Fair Deal decision guide, how HSE home support really works, medical card versus GP visit card, a hospital discharge checklist, a printable emergency contacts card, an equipment and funding directory, and the harder human ones: getting siblings to help, and burnout in the carer nobody is checking on.
The editorial rule is the product: every entitlement fact is verified against a primary source, and Republic of Ireland guidance is kept strictly separate from Northern Ireland guidance. Getting that wrong would be worse than not publishing.
How it is built
Astro, statically generated, with Pagefind for on-site search and an A–Z index driven from a single page config. Deployed on Vercel. The design system is deliberately its own — warm cream and burgundy, Fraunces and Atkinson Hyperlegible — because it needs to read as a reference site, not as marketing.
Why it exists
It is the top of the funnel for Kinclara, and it is built to earn that honestly. The site’s job is to be genuinely useful first; the only route through to the product is a footer credit and a single contextual call to action on the pages where someone is clearly at that point.
A content property that is useful whether or not anyone ever clicks through is the only kind worth building.
